Terry Waite visits the Hope Centre

In July 2009, Terry Waite visited the Hope Centre as part of a series of events organised by Emmaus UK. Terry is the President of Emmaus UK – a homeless charity that renovates and re-sells unwanted furniture.

It was a privilege meeting Terry and he was friendly to all our people at the Hope Centre. He ate lunch with us and spent time looking round the centre and talking to people.

SUMMER SPORTS PROJECT IS A GREAT SUCCESS!

Northampton Community Foundation very kindly funded a Summer 2009 Sports Project at the Hope Centre.

We’ve been climbing, playing tennis, squash, pitch & putt, bowling and rounders.

One of the regular attendees said he enjoys it because it’s fun and keeps him fit!

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL OT PLACEMENT AT THE HOPE CENTRE

Between April and July of this year (2009), we had our 2nd Occupational Therapist student from the University of Northampton. Following last year’s success with Helen Harris as our 1st ever OT placement student – Sarah Parsons-Lock took on the challenge of putting theory into practice at the Hope Centre! Yet again it was a great success and Sarah brought a lot to the centre – contributing to the work we already do here and encouraging our clients to express themselves through meaningful activity. Sarah said that the best thing for her was meeting so many interesting people and hearing their stories.

PICTURE OF HOPE ART EXHIBITION AT THE NORTHAMPTON MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY

In March this year, Lady Juliet Townsend officially opened our Picture of Hope exhibition at the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery. The exhibition, which took place between March and May 2009, had a collection of paintings done by our clients and also by Lee Burrows, Contemporary English Painter, who runs the weekly art workshop at the Hope Centre.
